of the international open call for the curator of the 5th edition of “Narracje – Installations
and Interventions in Public Space” Festival in Gdańsk

invite you to participate in the international open call for the curator of the 5th edition of
“Narracje – Installations and Interventions in Public Space” Festival in Gdańsk
Submission deadline: 11 November 2012

In 2013 the Festival will explore the area adjacent to the Main Town, between Zielona Brama
(Green Gate) and Brama Żuławska (Zulawska Gate): Wyspa Spichrzów (Granary Island),
Ołowianka and around Długie Ogrody Street.

Organizers’ requirements towards candidates:
1. minimum 5 years of documented experience as a curator having organized international
artistic festivals or other artistic activities in open public space, or having organized at least
3 international festivals or other artistic activities in open public space during the last 10
years prior to this announcement,
2. willingness and ability to visit Gdansk during preparations for the Festival from March to
November 2013 and constant presence in Gdansk during the Festival,
3. fluent command of English.

Documents to be attached to the candidate’s entry:
1. Letter of intent describing the reasons for participation in the open call,
2. Festival concept draft pertaining to the specifics of the area where the Festival is to be held,
3. Preliminary list of artists to be invited to participate in the Festival and a brief description of
their realized or planned projects and activities in public space that would become a part of
the Festival 5th edition’s programme, along with pictures or visualizations,
4. Festival budget estimation,
5. Updated CV of the candidate containing information about the candidate’s experience,
realized festivals or other artistic projects and the education degree,
6. Documentation (e.g. references, recommendations, awards, honours, promotional or
informational materials, publications supporting festivals or other artistic activities in
printed or electronic form, as well as links to websites of festivals and other artistic
activities) confirming minimum 5 years of documented experience as a curator of
international festivals or other artistic activities carried out in open public space, or the
execution of at least 3 international festivals or other artistic activities carried out in open
public space during the last 10 years prior to launching this competition,
7. Statement specified in the Rules and Regulations.

Basic tasks and duties of the curator of the Narracje Festival:
· To carry out the duties of the curator of the Festival in close cooperation with the producer,
the production team, the organizers and co-organizers of the Festival,
· To be ready to help obtain funds for the Festival, to look for potential sponsors or entities
interested in supporting particular projects/activities/artists participating in the Festival.
This is an international and open call. Entries will be accepted from individual candidates,
organizational units, legal entities and curatorial collectives.
Candidates are welcome to visit Gdansk and inquire about its historical, political and cultural
context prior to submitting their entries. Site information and pictures of sample Festival locations
are also available.
Entries will be accepted by 11 November 2012 via e-mail to: konkurs@narracje.eu or regular mail
to the Organizer’s address: City Culture Institute, Długi Targ 39/40, 80-830 Gdansk, Poland.
Detailed terms and conditions of the open call for the curator of the 5th edition of “Narracje –
Installations and Interventions in Public Space” Festival in Gdansk are presented in the attached
Rules and Regulations.

The competition Rules and Regulations are available on the Festival’s website www.narracje.eu
(web tab Open call) or in the office of City Culture Institute – Długi Targ 39/40, Gdansk, Poland
since the publication of this announcement until 11 November 2012.
The results of the open call will be announced on the Organizer’s website by 25 November 2012.
The winning candidate will be notified via e-mail.
The open call Organizer shall have the right to change, interrupt or terminate the competition
without accepting any of the submitted entries.
In case the winner of the open call fails to carry out the duties of the curator or to sign the contract,
the Organizer shall have the right to select the next best candidate without reopening the
competition.

Depending on the results of the 5th edition of the Festival, the Organizer of this open call allows the
possibility to extend the chosen curator’s contract for two successive years of the Festival.
