Founded in 1959, the Museo de Arte de Ponce has one of the most important collections of European art in Latin America and the Caribbean. MAP is devoted to exhibiting, conserving, studying and collecting visual art of the Western tradition from the fourteenth century to the present. The strengths of the collection are in British Pre-Raphaelite, Italian Baroque, and French Academic painting. The collection also includes many fine works by artists of Latin American and Caribbean descent from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. MAP serves 70,000 visitors annually with an ongoing calendar of temporary exhibitions and programs that relate to its collection. The museum’s collection consists of approximately 5000 paintings, sculpture, and works on paper.

Museo de Arte de Ponce (MAP) in Ponce, Puerto Rico, is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Exhibition Coordinator and Curatorial Assistant to assist MAP’s curator(s) with the planning and implementation of all temporary and permanent collection-based exhibitions. The Exhibition Coordinator and Curatorial Assistant will maintain temporary exhibition checklists, digital images, and exhibition and object credit lines; design and produce labels, design and coordinate production of exhibition graphics; respond to inquiries regarding object information and reproduction rights; and manage digital image archive of permanent collection and exhibitions.

The Exhibition Coordinator and Curatorial Assistant will generate departmental records and files related to exhibitions including signage, texts, and installation floor plans. He or she will also produce information related to the curatorial department on MAP’s website, members’ brochure, and annual report. The Exhibition Coordinator and Curatorial Assistant Curatorial will research materials related to exhibition design, assist with exhibition design, and help with the changes on MAP’s permanent collection. He or she will report to the curators and work in a team environment with registrar, education, conservation, communications, development, and operational staff.

Candidates must be willing to have their primary residence in Ponce, PR.
They must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, Fine Arts, curatorial or museum studies with knowledge of European art and/or contemporary Latin American and Caribbean art.
Excellent writing, verbal, editing, translation and proofreading skills.
Candidates must be fully bilingual—Spanish/English.
Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and work independently, a must.
Highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow up process.
Knowledge of collection management, exhibition development and current museum practices.
Proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing diverse data and written information.
Sense of urgency and commitment to accomplish goals, willing to work extended hours, to attend occasional museum events in the evenings and on weekends, and have experience working with people involved in the arts.
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign required.
