The City of Essen seeks a Curator of Contemporary Art for the Museum Folkwang. The contract is for 4 years.
The Museum Folkwang is one of the most important German museums of 19th and 20th century and contemporary art. Its collection includes painting, sculpture, photography, graphic works, ancient and non-European art and posters. The museum’s exhibition programme is reputed internationally. The Museum Folkwang places particular emphasis on an exchange with non-European cultures.
The responsibilities of this post include:
Conception, planning and realization of exhibitions of contemporary art and their accompanying publications
Active participation in the extension of the contemporary art collection
Close cooperation with artists, national and international partner institutions, donors and sponsors, collection foundations, etc.
Development of new programmes to promote artistic production in the Museum Folkwang
We are searching a highly qualified person with the necessary expertise, and seek candidates who have:
A doctorate in art history
Specific professional experience (international)
Outstanding knowledge in the area of international contemporary art, especially contemporary non-European art
Excellent command of German and English and if possible a further foreign language. Very good skills at presenting and communicating.
