The Art Gallery of Mississauga is seeking applicants for the position of Curator/Education Officer for the Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM). The AGM was founded in 1987 to sustain and nurture the creative spirit of visual arts in Mississauga and beyond through exhibition, education and collecting.
The successful candidate will be an imaginative individual with a thorough knowledge of Canadian contemporary and historical art in a local, national, and international context. Working under the supervision of and in close collaboration with the Executive Director, he/she will participate in the overall development of the gallery’s profile, educational and artistic direction. Research and publication will be an integral part of your work.
An effective communicator, you will develop and grow public interest and support for the gallery to foster audience understanding of art. The successful candidate will develop close working relationships with all levels of education encouraging greater use of and partnerships with the AGM.
A master’s degree in history of art, curatorial studies, museology or the equivalent experience is beneficial.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively and have a strong ability to multi-task and play a leadership role on multiple projects. A sound knowledge of the principles and practices of curatorial practice, collection database management and museum management, interpretation and education and an ability to meet deadlines are requirements for the position. He/she will have demonstrated communication skills (both written and verbal) and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
