Thursday October 28 to Sunday October 31, 2010 (Event Coincides with Toronto International Art Fair)
Deadline for Proposals: August 13th, 2010
The Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is seeking innovative creative thinkers to participate in this second annual exhibition. Not your traditional salon style art fair, upArt focuses on the diversity and vitality of contemporary installation art today. upArt brings together artists, curators, collectives, artist-run centres, galleries, and institutions to transform the entire second floor of the hotel with site specific new installations produced specifically for this event. We are looking for participants who approach or support contemporary art with radical personal vision to participate in our 2010 exhibition For What It's Worth: Curios, Collections and Counterfeits.
For What It's Worth explores ideas around collecting and the value we place on the objects we covet. What is real, what is worthy and how do we attribute value to our artwork? This year’s art fair invites galleries and artists to propose site-specific installations and/or collections for show and sale. Playing with themes of authenticity and value, galleries and artists are free to propose models of exchange or new ways of collecting, appraising and sharing artwork.
upArt is a chance for you as an artist, curator, gallery, or institution to showcase an installation project produced by an individual or in collective collaboration. Artists may apply on their own behalf, or curators, galleries, collectives, or institutions may host one project. upArt is unique in that we invite innovative thinkers to create or facilitate a site-specific installation following their own vision based on the themes of collections, curios and counterfeits.
